Milk Market Update

Milk Prices under Pressure as Global Supply Continues to Rise

In December 2025, the average advance milk price fell to €43.34 per 100 kg, down 2.8% from November and nearly 15% below December 2024. This marked the sixth consecutive monthly decline, though the pace slowed slightly. Milk prices are falling across most of Europe and also sharply in the United States, mainly due to continued strong growth in milk production.

EU milk deliveries increased by 4.8% in November, with significant growth in most Western European countries and Poland, while Ireland recorded a decline. Cumulatively, EU milk deliveries rose by 1.3% up to November 2025. Milk production also continued to rise in the US, New Zealand, Argentina, and Uruguay, while Australia saw further decline. Overall, major dairy exporters increased output by 2.2% year-on-year.

Butter prices came under renewed pressure in January, falling below €400 per 100 kg due to high production and large inventories. In contrast, skimmed milk powder prices have risen since early January, supported by solid demand, moving back above €200 per 100 kg.
