EDF in United Kingdom

The UK EDF national branch contains members from Northern Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales. Large groups from the UK have attended the EDF annual congress in recent years with up to 70 travelling from all over the UK. The EDF cost of production analysis has been well supported in the UK with almost 30 farmers now completing the annual questionnaire. National meetings have not happened regularly due to the geographic spread of the group - meetings at the Royal Show, Stoneleigh have taken place in the past. Joint meetings between the EDF members in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland have been held on 2 occasions in recent years. This provides an ideal forum to compare farms where some use Sterling currency and others, the Euro. A core group of active UK EDF members now exists and it is hoped that a National UK meeting can occur in early 2008. This is likely to take the form of a lunchtime to lunchtime meeting. The venue will be close to an airport to facilitate travel. At this meeting, practical farming issues, costs and possible sponsorship will be discussed.
