Dairy Farmers Club announces new office bearers


New president: Jean Francois Verdenal (Igney/France)

New vice-president: Harm Holman (Steenbergen/Netherlands)

New board member: Vladimir Chovan (Plavecké Podhradie/Slovakia)

 

The European Dairy Farmers Club (EDF) has elected French dairy farmer Jean Francois Verdenal of Igney as new president at its annual meeting in Nitra, Slovakia.

 

He succeeds Per Ake Sahlberg, Sweden who has successfuly managed the EDF for five years. The new vice-president elected by the EDF members is dairy farmer Harm Holman from Steenbergen near Groningen in the Netherlands and with the election of dairy farmer Vladimir Chovan of Plavecké Podhradie near Bratislava, Slovakia the club welcomes its first board member from the new EU member countries. British dairy farmer Neil Dyson, who farms in Buckinghamshre, continues in his role as EDF's second vice-president. EDF operates with two vice-presidents.

 

Since 2001, Jean Francois Verdenal farms in Lorraine with his brother and has a quota of 500.000 kg on 180 hectares of which 90 hectares are pasture. He has held positions in several international organisations and companies in countries such as Australia, Guinea and Saudi Arabia. Harm Holman manages a dairy farm with 120 cattle and 90 hectares land. For 16 years he has been a board member of Royal Friesland Foods one of Europe's largest dairy companies and has also served in the regional parliament and held management positions in cattle breeding organisations. Vladimir Chovan manages a 7000 ha farming business with 1500 dairy cattle.

 

The European Dairy Farmers Club has over 300 members from 20 countries. DLG, based in Frankfurt Germany, is responsible for the club’s management.

 


The Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute (vTI) is one of four German federal research institutes under the auspices of the German Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV). The vTI was created on January 1, 2008 from the German Federal Research Centre for Fisheries, the German Federal Research Centre for Forestry and Forest Products and part of the German Federal Agricultural Research Centre (FAL).
